Sara Cox is a lifelong music fan whose DJ sets channel nearly 30 years at the heart of showbiz. From the heyday of Britpop and big beat to today’s eclectic blend of pop, R&B, indie, and dance, she knows exactly how to get the party going.
Born in Bolton, she left her previous career behind to head to London in search of fame and fortune in the heady days of Britpop. She presented various TV shows, from Channel 4’s The Girlie Show to MTV Hot, Channel 5’s Exclusive, and Channel 4 music programmes Album Chart Show and Born Sloppy. Sara then presented The BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show for 3 and a half years, taking the show to various festivals and to the Balearics for the notoriously hedonistic Radio 1’s Ibiza Weekend and hosted numerous slots including drivetime and across the weekend.
In 2013, Sara made the move from BBC Radio 1 to BBC Radio 2 where she presented her own Friday night show Sounds of the 80s. In 2019 Sara took over the BBC Radio 2 drivetime show, hosting to over 6 million listeners.
Sara was the original presenter of BBC Two’s The Great Pottery Throw Down and a regular co-host on Radio 4’s Loose Ends. Her other TV credits include Love in the Countryside, Morning Live, Between the Covers, and the upcoming Marvellous Miniature Workshop.
In 2024, Sara launched Power Wower, a live show packed with all-request festival anthems. With a mix of pop, RnB, indie, and dance hits, it’s a celebration of feel-good music. The show debuted at Camp Bestival, becoming one of the most talked about sets of the weekend.
